Call for Award Nominations
The VASITE awards committee is looking for nominations for the awards for 2023 year. Awards will be presented at the Annual Meeting (June 14–16, 2023) in Virginia Beach. See below for the awards criteria. Please send any nominations to Kathryn Brown by March 31, 2023 on the Contact Us page.
The committee shall review the qualifications of Section members in order to determine potential candidates for three separate awards, including the Distinguished Service Award, Outstanding Individual Activity Award,and the Young Member Award. These awards are to recognize significant contributions and will not be granted automatically on a yearly basis. Guidelines for determining eligibility for these three awards are provided below. At the discretion of the Awards Committee, an additional award or awards may be distributed at the annual meeting. These awards are typically described as Awards of Appreciation that are distributed to members who perform activities for the Section during the year that deserve special recognition.
VASITE Awards Criteria
Outstanding Individual Activity Award(approved by VASITE Executive Board 10/14/92)
Candidates shall be Members of the Section or Section Affiliates and shall have made outstanding contributions to the transportation engineering profession in general and to the Section in particular during the year in which the award is made. The name of the candidate selected by the committee for recommendation as the award recipient shall be submitted to the Executive Board for approval not later than the Spring Meeting. Only one person shall be selected for this award in any given year. A statement of the award recipient’s contributions and accomplishments shall be prepared by the committee and read at the awards ceremony.
Young Member Award (approved by VASITE Executive Board on 6/28/95)
The Award will be presented to an individual who, over that person’s young professional career, has contributed to the advancement of transportation engineering and VASITE.
The recipient of this Award shall be a member of the Section and shall be under the age of 35 years. The recipient shall be evaluated on personal traits, such as, integrity, morality, and leadership. Professional individual accomplishments, such as, transportation innovations, technical research, and paper writing are to be considered. Involvement in Section activities, including meeting participation and committee work, will be a major consideration in selecting the award winner.
The name of the candidate selected by the committee for recommendation as the award recipient shall be submitted to the Executive Board for approval no later than the Spring Meeting. Distinguished Service Award (approved by VASITE Executive Board on 10/14/92)
Candidates shall have been active in the field of transportation for ten (10) years or more and shall have made continuous, significant contributions to the transportation engineering profession for at least five (5) years, as a VASITE Member or Section Affiliate. The name of the candidate selected by the committee for recommendation as the award recipient shall be submitted to the Executive Board for approval not later than the Spring Meeting. Only one person shall be selected for this award in any given year. A statement of the award recipient’s contributions and accomplishments shall be prepared by the committee and read at the award ceremony.
