Under general supervision, performs difficult professional work related to the design, construction, and management of multiple complex transportation projects. This position is responsible for independently managing and guiding the successful completion of complex construction and engineering transportation projects on time and within budget. Position may include the supervision of other project management and transportation staff. Employee is responsible for providing customer service to residents impacted by construction activities. Reports to the Director of Transportation.

This position serves as the Assistant Division Administrator for Planning and Performance in VDOT’s Traffic Operations Division. Responsibilities include (but are not limited to) oversight of VDOT’s traffic monitoring program, connected and autonomous vehicle planning efforts, and planning for operations initiatives. Ability to apply knowledge of federal, FHWA, state and local transportation rules, regulations and policies. Ability to oversee construction activities for multiple projects of varying complexity. Degree in Construction Engineering or related field. Knowledge of engineering design for roadways, structures, drainage and environmental state and federal standards related to highway design and construction. Knowledge of quality assurance and control methods. Knowledge of transportation construction principles and practices, transportation project management, processes, quality assurance and quality control methods. Skill in project scheduling and management. Valid Professional Engineer’s license.

Qualified candidates are eligible for a $5,000 Sign-on Bonus. As the Assistant Resident Engineer – Land Use, you’ll serve as a key technical and managerial leader within the Louisa Residency. Your work will span everything from plan reviews and roadway design oversight to coordination with local governments, developers, and utility providers.

This management position will provide technical support in the design, and management of the City’s traffic signal system and multimodal transportation network including, but not limited to, roadways, traffic signals, street signage, pavement markings, sidewalks, bikeways, greenways and multi-use facilities. Participation and represent BDOT on the Technical Review Committee (TRC) for development review.
