Hydraulics Engineer

The selected candidate will develop and design hydraulic models and drainage design elements of right of way and construction roadway plans. Review hydrologic and hydraulic design for drainage facilities prepared by others. Review projects with a specific focus. Oversee hydraulics related issues, complying with processes, schedules, budgets, design criteria, standards, and specifications.

Hiring Range: $77,276 – $125,574

Minimum Qualifications
• Engineering experience applying roadway design criteria, construction methods, standards, specifications and materials.
• Skill in the use of computers and software applications to include engineering design and analysis programs.
• Experience applying peak discharge hydrology, open and closed system design, erosion and sediment control features, and stormwater management.
• Knowledge of civil engineering principles as they relate to hydraulic, roadway design and standard design technical knowledge.
• Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing with internal and external customers.

Additional Considerations
• Work experience in transportation and engineering project management
• Knowledge of VDOT’s Road and Bridge Specifications and Standards
• PE License or EIT certification
• Knowledge of VDOT drainage policies, design procedures and FEMA policies and procedures to include VDOT’s Drainage Manual.
• A combination of training, experience or education in Civil Engineering, or related field desired.
• DEQ Erosion and Sediment Control Program Administrator, Plan Reviewer, or Inspector Certification.
• DEQ Stormwater Management Program Administrator, Plan Reviewer, or Inspector Certification.

Position is designated as essential to emergency operations and will be required to work outside normal work hours to ensure the safety of the traveling public.
