Engineer Roadway Design

Position will manage project design schedules; conduct project scoping and cost estimates; and coordinate with other divisions ensuring project segments remain on schedule. You will complete roadway designs utilizing MicroStation, GeoPak/OpenRoads and 3D software; provide technical direction and support to Project Lead; and perform quality control checks throughout the design process and communicate with stakeholders and external customers. VDOT is an emergency response agency, therefore you will work outside of normal work hours during emergency operations when services are needed.

Hiring Salary Range: $77,276 – $125,574

Minimum Qualifications
• Knowledge of principles of roadway safety that impact roadway standards and special designs
• Experience in roadway design criteria, construction methods, standards, specifications, and materials.
• Experience applying design standards, specifications, policies, and procedures.
• Experience applying civil engineering principles as they relate to roadway design and standard design technical knowledge.
• Skill in building networks and relationships with employees, field personnel, contractors, manufacturers and FHWA representatives.
• Skill in the use of computers and software applications to include engineering and design software.
• Ability to plan and schedule work.
• Skill in delivering exemplary customer service
• Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing with diverse audiences
Additional Considerations
• Experience in roadway design and project management for transportation projects
• Experience using OpenRoads or other 3D roadway design software
• Combination of training, experience or education in Civil Engineering or related field desired
• Engineer in Training (EIT) or Professional Engineer) PE License
Special Instructions
Position is designated as essential to emergency operations and will be required to work outside normal work hours to ensure the safety of the traveling public.
