What You’ll Bring to the Table

  • Experience: 0–8+ years in traffic engineering, transportation planning, or related design experience
  • Technical Foundation:
    • Familiarity with traffic analysis tools such as Synchro, SIDRA, VISSIM, or HCS
    • Understanding of traffic flow theory and operational analysis
    • Exposure to MUTCD, AASHTO, NACTO, and/or VDOT standards
  • Developing Skillset:
    • Interest in traffic signal design/timing, signing and marking, or multimodal design
    • Experience with or willingness to learn AutoCAD and/or MicroStation
    • Working knowledge of GIS and/or Adobe Creative Suite is a plus
  • Mindset:
    • Strong communication and technical writing skills
    • Desire to learn, take initiative, and grow into project and client management roles
    • Curiosity and enthusiasm for transportation engineering and design
  • Minimum Requirements:
    • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related field
    • Licensure Path: Ability to obtain E.I.T. certification and progress toward PE licensure
    • Applicants must be authorized to work in the U.S. without current or future sponsorship

What You’ll Do

  • Support traffic engineering and transportation planning analyses for public and private clients
  • Contribute to traffic impact studies, operational analyses, and safety evaluations
  • Participate in multimodal planning and design efforts
  • Prepare clear, well-organized technical reports and plan sheets
  • Assist in the design of traffic control devices, including signals, signing, and pavement markings
  • Collaborate with senior staff and gradually take on increased responsibility in project delivery

Work Environment & Flexibility

  • Hybrid schedule with 2–3 days per week in-office in Charlottesville, Richmond, or Northern Virginia
  • Virginia-based location required
  • Relocation stipend available; hybrid arrangements may be possible
