DESCRIPTION:NCSITE and VASITE are pleased to announce a free joint webinar on December 17 from 3:00 to 4:30 pm to round out your learning agenda for 2024. \n\n\n\nOur plan is to offer a speaker and a topic from each state on what they do really well. \n\n\n\nFrom Virginia\, the topic will be highway safety and the speaker will be Stephen Read\, PE\, leader of the Virginia Highway Safety Improvement Programs in the Traffic Operations Division of VDOT.  Virginia has a relatively low highway fatality rate compared to surrounding and peer states\, and Stephen will describe some of the policies and programs that help keep that rate low.  Stephen has over 35 years of experience with traffic operations and safety engineering and transportation planning projects\, research and management; he is active on several national committees; and he is a co-author of several published research articles and reports. \n\n\n\nFrom North Carolina\, the topic will be alternative intersections and interchanges and the speaker will be Joe Hummer\, PhD\, PE.  North Carolina is the world’s leader in the installation of RCUTs (RCIs)\, has installed at least one version of every major alternative design\, and continues to innovate by\, for example\, opening the world’s first superstreet interchange just a couple months ago\, and Joe will describe how NCDOT developed that culture of innovation.  Joe is the State Traffic Management Engineer at NCDOT\, was a faculty member at three universities for 27 years before that\, and has taught workshops on alternative intersections and interchanges in Virginia for several decades. \n\n\n\nWe will provide 1.5 PDHs for attendance. \n\n\n\nClick HERE to register!

SUMMARY:VASITE Fall Meeting & Traffic Bowl
DESCRIPTION:2023 VASITE Fall Meeting and Traffic Bowl\n\n\n\n\n\nVASITE hosted their Fall Meeting ad Traffic Bowl at Virginia Tech on November 27th and 28th. The event was kicked off Monday night with a social gathering where members caught up with old friends and the students were encouraged to mingle. Tuesday\, the fall meeting started with technical presentations from both members and Virginia Tech faculty\, followed by the annual Traffic Bowl between VT and UVA where in a close battle to the end\, Virginia Tech won and will be headed to Wilmington NC to represent VASITE in the SDITE traffic bowl. The day was capped off by a presentation and tour of Virginia Tech Transportation Institute (VTTI) Smart Roads facilities\, a suite of test tracks that enable advanced-vehicle testing in an interconnected and comprehensive cross section of roadways: including highway\, surface\, rural\, and unimproved/dirt. One of the highlights of the conference was an on-the-fly presentation to fill in time for a no-show\, where engineers in the room\, including consultants\, City and County staff\, had an open and honest dialogue with the students about hiring\, working in the field\, pros and cons of different career paths as well as other topics. \n\n\nMonday night Happy HourVTTIUVA and VT Traffic Bowl Teams2024 VASITE officers (William Wentzien \, Ric Lowman\, Jeffrey Kuttesch\, Andrew Butsick)VTTI Smart Road (Rural Road Segment)VTTI Smart RoadVTTI Smart Road

SUMMARY:2023 Annual Joint WDCSITE/VASITE/YPT Technical Meeting at Audi Field
DESCRIPTION:2023 Annual Joint WDCSITE/VASITE/YPTTechnical Meeting at Audi Field\n\n\n\nSeptember 20\, 20234:30 pm – 10:00 pm \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nOn Wednesday September 20\, 2022\, VASITE\, the Washington DC Section of ITE (WDCSITE)\, and Young Professionals in Transportation (YPT) gathered at Audi Field for the 4th annual joint technical meeting\, networking\, and soccer match. This flagship event has gained popularity over the years and again was a great success as approximately 120 members and colleagues attended from the three organizations. \n\n\n\nThis year’s technical program included four presentations that focused on planning\, public outreach\, and design of Bus Rapid Transit (BRT)\, placemaking and bicycle design\, and emerging technologies that can enhance safety at intersections and corridors. These presentations were an overview of Staunton District’s Multi-Modal Pipeline Studies; highlighting the engineering lessons learned from the Duke Street BRT project; placemaking and balancing mobility of all users along Pennsylvania Avenue West; and developing a “sandbox” for DDOT to test and evaluate technologies to improve safety for pedestrians and bicyclists using new sensors and crowdsourcing data. \n\n\n\nAfterwards\, attendees gathered for a happy hour with drinks and meals with a chance to network with professionals across all organizations. The night was capped off with a tough match between DC United and Atlanta United FC. After being down a goal for most of the game\, DC United was able to score in 80th minute to end in a 1-1 draw!! \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPlease join your fellow colleagues for the 4th Annual WDCSITE/VASITE/YPT Joint Fall Meeting on Wednesday\, September 20\, 2023 for a technical event and soccer match at Washington D.C.’s sports arena\, Audi Field in Buzzard Point! The event will include technical presentations\, appetizers\, drinks\, and tickets to the match afterwards\, all on site at the stadium! \n\n\n\nThis meeting is an excellent opportunity to meet and network with fellow members of WDCSITE\, VASITE\, and YPT. Presentations will be followed by appetizers and a social hour. The evening will cap off with DC United hitting the pitch and playing Atlanta United FC! It is anticipated that PDH credit(s) will be available. \n\n\n\nTo purchase tickets\, visit the WDCSITE website at the link below. You can click the “Continue as Guest” button to register. \n\n\n\nRegistration\n\n\n\nTentative Agenda\n\n\n\n4:30 PM – 5:00 PM: Registration/Networking5:00 PM – 6:30 PM: Technical Discussions Presentations: TBD6:30 PM – 7:30 PM: Social Hour/Networking (with appetizers and beverages)7:30 PM – 10:00 PM: Soccer Game (DC United vs Atlanta United FC) \n\n\n\nThis event will follow Audi Field’s Stadium Policy for tickets. \n\n\n\nBackpack and Bag Notice\n\n\n\nBased on the previous year’s experience\, it is strongly encouraged to not bring backpacks or bags when attending the technical session or match. If you must bring a bag to the stadium we ask that you follow the Audi Field Bag Policy as this is a strict policy and bags larger than the 14-in by 14-in by 6-in dimension will not be allowed. \n\n\n\nConsent to use photographic images\n\n\n\nBy registering to this event\, you agree that your image\, video\, and voice recording may be used at any time\, without further notification\, for printed materials\, websites\, social media\, live-streaming\, webcasts and other marketing and educational purposes. \n\n\n\nTransportation\n\n\n\nAudi Field is within walking distance of the METRO BUS (METRO Green Line at either Waterfront or Navy Yard/Ballpark stations. \n\n\n\nParking is available\, but limited near the stadium and should consult DC United’s Transportation Guide for nearby lots/garages in the Navy Yard area. \n\n\n\nEntry to the stadium\n\n\n\nAttendees should enter the stadium via the “PREMIUM ENTRY” gate. SUMMARY:Virtual Lunch & Learn: Performance-Based MOT using 3rd party and Connected Vehicle Data
DESCRIPTION:Presenter\n\n\n\nScott Carlson\, P.E.General Manager of Mobility Professional Services Iteris \n\n\n\nPresentation Summary\n\n\n\nIteris is using performance-based MOT on 2 of the nation’s largest highway design projects\, the I-405 in CA and the I-10 in AZ. To date\, these are the only two known DB projects in US relying on 3rd party data and connected vehicle data for MOT and both use Iteris’ analytics platform\, ClearGuide. MnDOT will initiate a design build project in summer 2023 that also uses ClearGuide for performance-based MOT. With Iteris’ solution\, traditional static hours of operation for MOT is being replaced with 3rd party data to monitor highway and arterial traffic conditions in real time within construction projects. The data has enabled the contractor\, working in collaboration\, not conflict\, with the owner agency\, to proactively respond to operational constraints during closures and provides performance metrics on operational impacts due to changes in intersection and roadway configurations. This approach improves safety\, reduces construction impacts and accelerates construction schedules. \n\n\n\nAnticipated 1 PDH credit. \n\n\n\nRSVP\n\n\n\nRSVP with the form below to receive a calendar invitation and zoom link.
